The Rules:
The album of the year must be an album that I listened to for the first time between January 1, 2001, and December 31, 2001.
It's not necessary for this album to have actually been released in 2001.
BLUE MAN GROUP - AUDIO
- tie -
SIFL & OLLY - SONGS OF SEASON 1
The Reasons Why:
There's no doubt in my minf that Blue Man Group's Audio was quite simply the newest album that I playd the most and got the most enjoyment out of all year long. There's not a bad track on the album, not one. It had the award all sewn up until Sifl & Olly came in at the tail end of December.
The first day I got Songs of Season 1 I just put it on repeat and let it play over and over again all day long... if that's not a sign of a great album I don't know what is. But my first reaction to the idea of Sifl & Olly coming in at the last minute and stealing the award right out of the Blue Man Group's hands (now there's an image) was that it might not be fair. After three years of waiting, hoping and praying for Sifl & Olly CD, I finally got it-- but it was all songs that I heard for the first time on the show in 1998. Plus I taped a bunch of the songs off the show and had been listening to them ever since, so did it really count as "new"?
Joy pointed out to me that disqualifying it under those grounds was also just as unfair, seeing as how a home-made tape wasn't an actual album. Therefore it didn't fit the requirements for the rules, and I certainly never would have considered it, so it never could have been elligible before now.
So there was really no other choice in my mind... they both won.
